Just an article on some of the New Zealand talent set to play on Sunday.
Hawkes Bay lad plays for Parramatta Eels
Dannevirke-born and bred rugby league player Weller Hauraki left home two years ago to travel to Australia, with a dream of making a career in the NRL with the Parramatta Eels.
On Sunday that dream will be realised when Hauraki plays for the Eels in a pre-season game against the New Zealand Warriors in New Plymouth. Earlier this week he was named as a frontrow forward in the Eels squad of 25 for the season.
Hauraki followed his father, Lou, into the Dannevirke Tigers league team three or four years ago but the following season, when the club was unable to field a team, joined friends who were playing under-18 rugby for the Aotea club.
New Zealand test captain Nathan Cayless will lead the inexperienced Eels side on Sunday. Hauraki is expected to get game time off the subs bench.
The Eels lost their first trial match 18-24 to Cronulla in Lismore last weekend.
